HOAP provides tuition and schools supplies to the children
of Petit-Goave. Schools such as Ecole des Doués benefit
from the generosity of our donors. Scholarships are awarded
annually to the most needy children in the community
of Petit-Goave. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors,
we were able to provide tuition for over 120 children.
For the past three years, HOAP has actively participated
in the annual health fair undertaken by Dr. Yvenet Monice,
Dr. Lyonel Allen, and the Florida based Friends of Petit-Goâve, Inc..
Our organization supports these efforts by contributing funds
for medication and refreshments. The fair is conducted by
healthcare provides, including over twenty doctors
from the Diaspora and Haiti. Thus far, over 2000 children
have benefited from this event, which takes place in August
of each year.
In May 2005, HOAP collaborated with The Park School
of Brookline, MA, and launched a backpack and school supply drive for the children of Petit-Goave. We collected over 160 backpacks filled with school supplies and thoughtful letters from Park School’s students. Due to hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, the original plan to deliver the donations in September 2005 needed to be postponed. HOAP's board members resumed the trip in September of 2006, and delivered the donations just in time for the first week of school.
In September 2005, HOAP, in collaboration with The Park School’s
Community Service Committee, launched a food and clothing drive for the children of Gonaïves who were victims of hurricane Jane. Over 50 boxes of food, clothing, and medication were sent to Gonaïves. Reverend Phanor of the Church Agape of Malden, Massachusetts, arranged for the shipment of all packages.
In August 2006, a number of board members traveled
to Petit-Goave to deliver matressess to the local hospital.
The matressess were shipped via a container, and received
and distributedby HOAP's members. Many patients in Petit-Goave
were forced to stay on the floors duringtheir hospitalization.
While the hospital has a number of beds, the majority of them
did not have matressess. HOAP delivereda total of 37 matressess.
On August 4 2007, HOAP launched its first annual summer camp for the children of Petit-Goave to August 8 2007. More than 150 kids attended that event from 8 AM to 4 PM. The campers enjoyed sports, arts and crafts, games, guest speakers and delicious meals. The camp was supervised by the HOAP staff.
On August 18 2008, HOAP started its second edition of the annual summer camp for a week, succesfully. The content of this year event was similar to last year with of course a bit more on every category. The HOAP staff as usual was on site.
